Yoga makes a return to City Park
OCTOBER 12 2020 - 2:46PM
It first began back in 2008 and is one of Active Launceston's free eight-week programs in spring.
Project founder and manager Lucy Byrne said there was some exciting nostalgia with a return to City Park and she had a great memory from one of the early sessions.
"I was lying on my back on a yoga mat, smelling the freshly cut grass, feeling the evening summer sun shining down on my face," she said.
"Around me were 102 fellow community member. People of all shapes and sizes and all different abilities. There were people wearing lycra and people wearing daggy old trackies. Some had yoga mats, but others were simply lying on a beach towel.
"As the class started we worked through the movements and the group smiled at each other as they were challenged to take different poses and giggled as their tree pose didn't go quite as planned. I immediately felt like I was part of something, like we were all in this together."
Mrs Byrne said the organisation was grateful of the ongoing support of the City of Launceston council as without its input this project would not be possible.
